Cookie policy
What cookies and tags we use, why, and how to change your mind.

1. What cookies are #
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Tags are short scripts that may set cookies or send information about your visit. We use both on this site, run by Context Visualised Limited ("CoVi", "we", "us").
Some are needed for the site to work. The rest help us see which pages people read, how they move through the site, and which LinkedIn posts bring them here. We use those only if you say yes.
2. The three kinds we use #
Strictly necessary. These keep the site working and secure, and remember your cookie choice. They are always on, because the site cannot run without them. The law does not require consent for them.
Analytics. Google Analytics 4 and PostHog. Google Analytics tells us which pages people visit, how they arrived, and which buttons they click. For example, whether someone opened a Halden report. We use it to improve the site. PostHog shows us how people use the site: session recordings, heatmaps of clicks and scrolling, and the paths people take from page to page. Everything you type into a form is hidden before it leaves your browser [CONFIRM].
Marketing. The LinkedIn Insight Tag. It tells us which LinkedIn campaigns bring people to the site. It also gives us grouped reports on visitors' job titles and industries, which do not name anyone. [CONFIRM: if used for retargeting, add: "It also lets us show our ads on LinkedIn to people who have visited the site."] Our own cookie, covi_ft, also sits in this group [CONFIRM: marketing or analytics]. It remembers where your first visit came from: the campaign tags, the page you came from, the first page you landed on, and any ad click ID. If you later send a form, we store those details with it.
Analytics and marketing tags run only after you accept: choose "Accept all", or turn them on under "Choose". Until then, they do not load and send nothing. This includes PostHog and covi_ft. If you reject analytics, PostHog does not run at all.
3. Your choice, and how to change it #
On your first visit, our banner offers three buttons of equal weight: Accept all, Reject all and Choose. "Choose" lets you turn analytics and marketing on or off one by one. Both start switched off. The site works the same whichever you choose.
To change your mind later, use Cookie settings in the footer of any page, or the button at the top of this page. If you withdraw consent, the tags stop sending from that point, and we delete the Google Analytics cookies and the LinkedIn cookies set on our own domain. LinkedIn cookies set on linkedin.com stay in your browser until they expire, or until you delete them. If you withdraw analytics consent, PostHog stops, and we delete its cookie and its browser storage [CONFIRM]. If you withdraw marketing consent, we delete covi_ft [CONFIRM].
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Your browser's help pages explain how. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site working.

How the tags load. Our own banner script loads Google Analytics, PostHog and the LinkedIn Insight Tag, and only after you accept. We do not use Google Tag Manager yet. When we do, it will not set cookies of its own.
5. Who else sees the data #
Google and LinkedIn receive the data their tags collect and may process it outside the UK, including in the United States. PostHog Inc. receives the data PostHog collects, and stores it in its EU Cloud in Frankfurt, Germany. Each day, Google also copies our Google Analytics data into our own database in Google Cloud (BigQuery), stored in London [CONFIRM: BigQuery export live]. Their own privacy policies explain how they use it:
- Google: policies.google.com/privacy
- LinkedIn: linkedin.com/legal/privacy-policy
- PostHog: posthog.com/privacy
We also plan to tell Google Ads and LinkedIn when an ad click leads to a qualified enquiry. This is not running yet. We will do it only if you gave marketing consent.
Our privacy policy explains our lawful basis, international transfers and your rights.
6. Changes to this policy #
When we add or remove a cookie or tag, we update this page and the date at the top.
